Bikini Brazilian Wax
Bikini Brazilian Wax
As a woman I can’t count the number of times I have thought to myself :”Why didn’t anyone tell me about that?” This is especially true when it comes to all things involving our lady parts or women specific issues. No one tells you about the ring of fire that occurs during child birth. No one tells you that at some point during your pregnancy you will no longer be able to see your vagina let alone trim things up. No one tells you that in your thirties you are going to start sprouting chin hairs like a chia pet. I digress …back to lady parts and ahem trimming things up. Ever been curious about Bikini Brazilian Wax? Sure you have gotten your eyebrows waxed but have you though about waxing down there? I am sharing all the do’s and don’ts when it comes to what I like to call “getting your kitty pretty!” so you can’t say no one ever told you!
Before your Bikini Brazilian Wax
1. Do get a Bikini Brazilian Wax
You have to try it at least once before you can say never again, right? I never thought I would enjoy the bare but I am hooked. Waxing will be a new part of my beauty care. Not to mention after over a decade of marriage, let’s just say things have heated up since hot wax has entered my life. Your husband will be thrilled with your dare to be bare Brazilian waxing. Not to mention – no more shaving!
2. Do know what style you want
Aha I bet you didn’t know that there are several options when choosing how you want things to look. So here is the skinny (no pun intended). Listed in order from the most hair left behind to the most daring.
Basic Bikini Wax – boring maybe but still a classic. This is just the bikini line so you can stop shaving and look great at the beach or pool.
French bikini – a little more exciting than your basic bikini wax – a little closer in.
Tweenie – this is in between a French bikini and Brazilian so that means it includes the butt.
Brazilian – we are talking nothing I mean nothing left behind or you can always opt for a landing strip, a triangle, or for something sweeter a heart shape.
3. Do find a fabulous salon and go to the same esthetician every time
Let’s face it, if you have had kids more people on the planet than you can count have seen your vagina, there is no need to show it to a new gal every time you get waxed.
4. Don’t shave or trim whatever you’ve got growing.
Put the razor down. You need to have hair long enough for the wax to be effective. Don’t worry if you feel like you have a jungle down there – your esthetician will trim it if needed but if you don’t have enough hair you can’t get it waxed. Hair needs to be at least 1/4 inch long so that is about 2-3 weeks of growth.
5. Do exfoliate – side to side, up down
I would suggest you start exfoliating about a week before you decide to get waxed. So you know those facial washes that gently exfoliate your face well if they are gentle enough for your face then I would say they are gentle enough for you lady parts. So use an exfoliating wash and and exfoliating glove. You will need to do this after your wax anyway so might as well start now. Channel your inner karate kid when you exfoliate and remember side to side, up and down – no circles! Washing in circles increases the chance that you will get clogged pores or in grown hairs.
6. Don’t drink caffeine before your appointment
Caffeine enhances your pain receptors so skip your cup of joe and no chocolate. Thinking about taking a shot of tequila to help calm you nerves and get you through this – don’t! Alcohol increases skin sensitivity because it is a stimulant.
7. Do take an ibuprofen 30-45 min before your appointment
This will help minimize the pain. Oooops I said it, there is going to be some pain involved. If you are close to getting your period your skin will be more sensitive so try to not to schedule your waxing 2-3 days before your cycle starts and if you have your period – no problem you can still get waxed during your cycle. While we are on the subject of pain – read tip #7!
8. Do use a topical numbing cream
About 30 min before your appointment, apply a topical numbing cream. I suggest a product called BareEase. You can’t buy BareEase just anywhere so when you call to make your appointment ask if the salon sells it, chances are they do. If not you can order it online. Use this product!
After your Bikini Brazilian Wax
1. Don’t exfoliate for 48 hours
I know you have been practicing and I now you want to prevent ingrown hairs and red bumps but you have to wait 48 hours before you exfoliate. After 48hours you should exfoliate once daily with an exfoliating glove – don’t forget side to side, up and down, no circles!
2. Don’t have sex for 48 hours
Blunt I know but sex = friction and friction = irritation. Maybe showing off your new do with a no touching policy might be a good idea to add some fuel to the fire when the 48 hour no friction rule expires.
3. Don’t sweat it
Take a break from the gym for 24-48 hours and avoid saunas and steam rooms. Sweat can clog the empty hair follicles so if you must exercise do some yoga and shower soon after.
4. Do shower
Skip the soak in the tub for 24-48 hours.
5. Do use an antimicrobial topical cream
Applying an antimicrobial cream helps prevent ingrown hairs and helps keep the waxed area smooth and bump free. I use a product called Finipil because that is what my salon recommends. You should be able to purchase a cream designed for this purpose at your salon. You should apply the cream once a day after showering for two weeks after your Brazilian waxing.
6. Do get out your granny panties
We all have them and 24-48 hours after waxing is the perfect time to wear them. You will want some loose fitting underwear again to minimize irritation. If you don’t have a pair (liar) then just buy a pair of underwear a size or two bigger than normal.
Alright ladies, now you know everything I know about what to do before and after getting a Bikini Brazilian Wax done. So put aside your fear and dare to go bare! You’re welcome!

Hi. Yep. I have thought about waxing down there and I truly appreciate all your tips, however I can barely stand to have my eyebrows waxed.
However, my husband and I are cruising to Mexico 1 week from today (Saturday). Not much action at all in the bedroom at home ever, except when we go on vacation, which luckily is real often but not often enough! . My question for you: is this very good timing for a full waxing “down there”? Would you advise this (like Monday or Tuesday) a good choice of timing for “trimming the kitty”? I Will the kitty be pretty within 5 days? I don’t want to take any chances of ruining our date week by being all red or bumpy or tender. I do trim and I could do more if you don’t think think this is very good timing. By the way, you are hysterically funny and and very helpful at the same time. I’m looking forward to reading a lot more!!
luv+

So pretty basic question….how long does the wax last?

Well of course hair starts to regrow immediately but you should be smooth for a week or so. You will need to go back every 4-5 weeks. After the 4th one your results will last longer because of the cycle of hair growth. It also gets less and less painful as you keep getting it done….. I know hard to believe but it does.

Maybe I am just old by why would anyone want to be bare down there? It looks too much like a little girl and for a man to want to have sex with that seems kinda creepy to me. Why make the vulva like a little girl’s? I can see trimming the hair a bit but take it all off? Creepy, really.
