I’m gonna love myself the way I want you to love Me
I know here on Love Laughter Forever after we talk a lot about loving others, but today I would like to talk about loving yourself! My daughters favorite artist is Katy Perry and while listening to one of her songs Love Me, it got me thinking, we spend so much time worrying about other people loving us, that we forget to take time to love ourselves.
Do You love yourself the way you want to be loved?
“But now, I don’t negotiate with insecurities
They always seem to get the best of me
I found I had to love myself, the way I wanted you to…
No more second guessing
No, there’s no more questioning
I’ll be the one defining who I’m gonna be
No concealing feelings, or changing seasonally
I’m gonna love myself, the way I want you to love me”-Katy Perry
I think if you love yourself first, you are able to love someone else that much better. As RuPaul says, “If you can’t love yourself how the hell you gonna love someone else?” And that rings so true for me.
In the beginning of my relationship I never thought I was good enough for my husband, and I questioned his intentions often, and I almost lost him. I decided to start seeing myself in the same light that he saw me in, and not only did it help my relationship, it helped me, love me.
So I wanted to share some ways you can love yourself the way you want to be loved:
1. Take care of yourself! I know you want to spend your time taking care of your spouse/kids/family but don’t forget to take time to care for yourself. Be Happy, Be Healthy
2. Tell yourself, out loud, how awesome you are! Are you looking particularly awesome today? Tell yourself! Got the promotion you worked hard for? Pat yourself on the back. It doesn’t even have to be something big. You made it through the day without a negative thought? LOVE YOURSELF
3. Take time for yourself- I know in the bust world we live in, it might be hard to find time for yourself, but make time. 15 minutes in the morning to sip coffee and watch the news, half an hour before bed to read a new book, a Saturday afternoon to go shopping (sans kids) anything. Don’t lose your identity!
4. Don’t let others dictate how you feel about yourself- People can be cruel and mean. This is their own insecurity, not yours. People make fun of things in others they see in themselves. Don’t fall into their trap, just continue being awesome, and say a little prayer that they start to love themselves the way you do.
So remember, love yourself the way you want to be loved.
