Chicken Ranch Sliders

At 2:30pm today it will be the official start of summer in our home! It’s my favorite time of year. As a WAHM I get the luxury of spending the summer hanging out with my daughter. This means days of playing at the park, staying up late to play Mario Kart together, and making lunches together. This also means that my usual lunch of peanut butter and crackers just isn’t going to cut it. So I’ve started meal planning and thinking of things that are quick, easy, and that we will both like.  [Read more…]

Super Simple Coleslaw Recipe

Super Simple Coleslaw Recipe

coleslaw

It’s officially coleslaw season again!  As summer approaches, our dinner menus begin to change.  This is the time of year when my husband starts grilling and I simply have to prepare side dishes.  For me, it’s a bonus because I have a recipe box filled with summer sides, including fresh salads and vegetables.  After a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is put together a whole meal.

Our local farmer’s market just opened and, with all the fresh vegetables available, our family’s dinner side dishes no longer consist of frozen vegetables.  We’ll be enjoying zucchini, tomatoes, cabbage, radishes, green beans, bell peppers, peas, cucumbers, and asparagus fresh from the farm.

This family favorite simple coleslaw recipe is one which I adapted from my days of following The Flylady.  Instead of chopped cabbage and carrots, the recipes calls for these ingredients to be shredded.  My family is not fond of sweet coleslaw so this coleslaw, which is more on the tangy side, pleases everyone.

Here’s what you’ll need: [Read more…]

Bacon Garlic Butter Recipe

Bacon Garlic Butter Recipe

I hope everyone had an awesome 4th of July!  I don’t know about you but here in TN it rained pretty much ALL weekend.  Even with the rain, we still managed to shoot off some fireworks and grill in between the bouts of rain.  I am a very recent steak eater (never did like it until I gave it another try a few months ago) so this weekend was my first time having steak grilled at home.  I knew I wanted to make it special.

At the restaurant we went to where I first had a steak, they put this really yummy bacon garlic butter on their steak.  After trying it, I just knew I had to work on recreating this taste at home. You guys, not only is this super easy to make, it really adds some awesome flavor to steak. You could also spread it on some toast, use it in savory recipes, and more! I wish I would have tried it sooner.  Are you ready for how easy this is? Really it takes about 5 minutes, ha!  [Read more…]

Balloon Wreath Tutorial

Balloon Wreath

//
//

I love my balloon wreath.   In fact, I just plain love wreaths.  From burlap to balloons-I don’t judge!   I love them all.  This balloon wreath is no different.  While it was pricey to make, it’s usable for every single birthday party!

Directions for balloon wreath:

Balloons-LOTS of them-at least 250.  This project is kinda pricey.
Balloon Wreath
A straw wreath form with wrapping intact.  (I didn’t use Styrofoam in case all the pins made the form crack.  I didn’t get a picture of it, either.  I was too excited to start!)
Floral pins.  I would guess that straight pins would work as well.
Balloon Wreath
First, take your straw wreath while in the plastic, and lay it on the floor.

Take balloons two or three at a time, and spread the larger part of the balloons out, but lay the narrow ends together.
Pin the balloons to the wreath.
 Balloon Wreath
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat x infinity.
 Balloon Wreath
Until your balloon wreath resembles something like this:
Balloon Wreath
You may have to stick a few extra balloons in once you’ve finished it.  Hang the wreath up and walk around it looking for any spots that show pins or the straw, and cover them.  Shake the wreath lightly and check for any loose balloons.  If both of these are taken care of, congrats!  You’ve just made a balloon wreath!
This project was SUPER simple, but it took probably an hour to make-and my hands were really sore from pushing in all those floral pins.  This wreath would look great with some glittery picks or bows, or even a small pennant banner!  And when you’re done, just take the balloon wreath down and put it away until the next party-or, take off the balloons & pins, and start over for another season.  Black, orange, yellow, and purple for Halloween, green, red, gold, and silver for Christmas, etc, etc.  The possibilities are endless with a balloon wreath!
