The Best Christmas Tea ever!

Christmas Tea Recipe

Everyone knows that Southern food just can’t be matched…and drinks are no exception.  I had this
Christmas tea a few years ago, at our small-town bank during a Holiday party, and I was willing to do anything for the recipe. It’s that good. Turns out, it’s from a hometown cookbook that’s just about as old as the town itself. So, if you’re  looking for an autumn tea or Christmas tea recipe, you’ve found it. Look no further. Close all those other recipes you’ve got open, cause this is the one you want to go with.

Christmas Tea Recipe Ingredients:

2 Cinnamon sticks
2 TBSP WHOLE cloves
3 Cups sugar (Haven’t made it with Splenda, but I’m sure you could!)
1 qt. boiling water
1 qt. strong tea (REALLY REALLY STRONG)
Juice of 3 lemons (Or lemon juice)
1 cup pineapple juice
1 cup orange juice
3 quarts boiling water (You can sub some of this for apple cider!)

Directions:

Bring 1 qt water (or cider) to a boil, add cinnamon sticks, cloves, and sugar.  Boil for 5 minutes, then strain out spices.   Add tea and remaining ingredients.  Serve hot or cold!

After making this a few times, it’s always best the next day. It’s great fresh, of course, but it’s even better after sitting overnight in the fridge. You can drink this hot or cold. The cinnamon and cloves mesh so well with the tea flavor — and the citrus notes are just the perfect finish. I promise you, if you make this, you will be asked for this Christmas tea recipe, if not crowned the king or queen of the party!

Eggnog Cookies Recipe

Eggnog Cookies

Eggnog Cookies

Eggnog Logs are very pretty and very delicious but also very simple and easy to make. This is definitely an eggnog cookies recipe that the kids with love to help you bake. My kids love to roll the dough into ropes and they love cutting the dough rope into logs. Seems like young ones always want to chop and cut in the kitchen but that isn’t always an easy thing to accommodate for the tiny tots. You can fulfill their desire and keep them safe too by letting them cut the dough rope into logs with a butter knife or plastic knife. It is just like playing with play dough but they get to eat yummy cookies when they are done. Helping make cookies is also great for fine motor development and you can sneak in a little math and science without any one even noticing. [Read more…]

Free Printable Santa Letter For Kids

Free Printable Santa Letter For Kids

free printable santa letter

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays of the year! I love filling my house the holiday cheer, spending time with family, and I’ll admit it, the presents are pretty fun too. Lucky for me, my 7 year old still believes in the magic of Santa and gets really excited to write him a letter every year with what she wants. This year we wanted to try something a little different. Instead of asking Santa for random gifts, I wanted to try out the 4 gift path I had seen recently. The 4 gifts are something I want, something I need, something to wear, and something to read! So she can pick out a toy she wants, something she needs (like an electric pencil sharpener), a new outfit, and a new book! I LOVE this idea. Not only does it prevent me from going overboard (which I tend to do) it keeps her from expecting too much as well. And anything to promote reading is awesome with me!  [Read more…]

How To Make An Edible Graveyard For Halloween

How To Make An Edible Graveyard For Halloween

edible graveyard

Can you guys tell that I’m a little bit excited about Halloween this year? Every year we throw a Halloween party for our family and friends, and I’m always looking for fun Halloween food recipes that the kids and adults will like. While grocery shopping over the weekend I of course had to stop by the Halloween section and found the cutest little gravestone peeps! I just knew I had to use them in some type of recipe, and I remember a “cake” my mom used to make me that resembled dirt and worms. That gave me the idea of my Edible Graveyard! My daughter loved the idea, and I thought some of you would too! [Read more…]

4th of July Party

4th on the 5th

I’ve been knee deep in planning a 4th of July party.  Since many of my friends are watching fireworks or at family get-togethers, I’m starting a new tradition-the 4th on the 5th!  I downloaded some printables from Hostess with the Mostess (Amazing freebies), and scored some decor from my local crafts stores to create a really fun party!

//
//

The weather put a damper on my plans for outdoor set-up and activities, but I made do and set it all up on my porch.  I had originally planned potato sack races, but the weather put a stop to all that.  The kids, however, didn’t seem to mind at all, and played outside through the whole thing!  I just now got around to deep-cleaning my carpet and floors! LOL

4th of July Party

We had hot dogs with all the trimmings, BBQ food, and cupcakes.

Guests got cute goodie bags, and we kept the party rolling with sparklers, poppers, and glow bracelets.

I made custom matchboxes by gluing the party squares onto the matchbooks.  Took just a few minutes and made a huge splash with the guests.

4th of July Party

Let me tell you-I made the BEST drink ever for this party-and it was SO simple.  I sliced up strawberries and put them in a container, topped with blueberries, and poured Sprite over the whole thing.  I let it sit for a few hours, and what emerged was a light, fruity, refreshing drink.  My guests loved it and I had tons of requests for the recipe.

4th of July Party

I just HAD to include cotton candy.  The kids loved putting it in their drinks.

The decor was pretty simple to come by.  I purchased most of the goods from either the dollar store or my local Hobby Lobby.

Balloon Wreath Tutorial

Balloon Wreath

//
//

I love my balloon wreath.   In fact, I just plain love wreaths.  From burlap to balloons-I don’t judge!   I love them all.  This balloon wreath is no different.  While it was pricey to make, it’s usable for every single birthday party!

Directions for balloon wreath:

Balloons-LOTS of them-at least 250.  This project is kinda pricey.
Balloon Wreath
A straw wreath form with wrapping intact.  (I didn’t use Styrofoam in case all the pins made the form crack.  I didn’t get a picture of it, either.  I was too excited to start!)
Floral pins.  I would guess that straight pins would work as well.
Balloon Wreath
First, take your straw wreath while in the plastic, and lay it on the floor.

//
//

Take balloons two or three at a time, and spread the larger part of the balloons out, but lay the narrow ends together.
Pin the balloons to the wreath.
 Balloon Wreath
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat x infinity.
 Balloon Wreath
Until your balloon wreath resembles something like this:
Balloon Wreath
You may have to stick a few extra balloons in once you’ve finished it.  Hang the wreath up and walk around it looking for any spots that show pins or the straw, and cover them.  Shake the wreath lightly and check for any loose balloons.  If both of these are taken care of, congrats!  You’ve just made a balloon wreath!
This project was SUPER simple, but it took probably an hour to make-and my hands were really sore from pushing in all those floral pins.  This wreath would look great with some glittery picks or bows, or even a small pennant banner!  And when you’re done, just take the balloon wreath down and put it away until the next party-or, take off the balloons & pins, and start over for another season.  Black, orange, yellow, and purple for Halloween, green, red, gold, and silver for Christmas, etc, etc.  The possibilities are endless with a balloon wreath!
